Fruits of our hardwork

Anil Jadhav

Hi my name is Anil Jadhav.  I am 23 years old.  My mother died when I was very young.  My father tried to look after me, my elder brother Sunil and my three elder sisters.  It was very difficult for him as he was a rag picker - sorting through people's garbage looking for things he could sell or for us to eat.  We lived in the slum where we shared a hut with a cloth roof along with my elder sister, her husband and their baby.  My father brother and I would sleep outside.  When it rained we had to sit in the hut the whole night trying to avoid the water dripping from the roof.

My father sent me to Nav-Jeevan when I was three years old along with my elder brother Sunil and a sister Ranjeeta.  Nav Jeevan, which was set up by Wilkinson and Annelies Aunty, embraced us and looked after us as if we were their own.

I enjoyed living in the school.  For the first time I was sleeping in a bed  and under a roof that did not leak.  We were given good food and all the love we needed.  I did well in studies and also sports.

I finished high school scoring 78%.  Annelies Aunty put me in an expensive private college where I have completed my BCCA i.e. Bachelor of Commerce in Computer Applications. During College days, after my college hours I have a part time job in the school as a clerk which helps me earn some pocket money.  After my graduation, I got a job in Nagpur as Administrative Clerk. I could never have done this without the support of Navjeevan Sanstha, Annelies Aunty, Wilkinson Aunty and Aneeta Mam. I hope to be a good example for the countless children who take my place in my beloved school.

Hi !  My name is Isha dhurve. I'm 23 years old.  I came to Nav-Jeevan when I was only 2 years old . At that time my mother had died under mysterious circumstances .  I only had my 3 year old sister to cling to.  We were being looked after by my mother's younger sister.  But she was so poor that she could barely care for her own children let alone look after us.  She brought us to Nav-Jeevan and the loving care of Annelies Aunty and ever since our life has changed.  It took me some time to get used to my new surroundings.  I often craved for my aunt who was till then the only mother I had ever known.  My sister and I often prayed that just once we'd be able to meet our real mother.  But soon that mother's role was taken over by Annelies Aunty who came to visit us every year even though she had to do it in a wheelchair.

Both my sister and I finished high school, and did quite well,  thanks to the dedication of our teachers. We wanted to do nursing but the course was very expensive.  It was through the generosity of Navjeevan Sanstha and Annelies Aunty we were able to achieve our dreams.  Today we are both graduated from Mure Memorial College, Nagpur and working as Nurse in a private hospital

I don't know where I would have been if it was not for Navjeevan Sanstha and Annelies Aunty.  Over the years they have looked after us - in sickness and in health.  Though I have no parents, Yet  I've never lacked the love and care that I needed.  I've grown from a painfully shy young child into the confident young woman that I am today.

Thanks to Annelies Aunty’s tireless efforts, many children like us have been able to change our lives.  We are eternally grateful and wish our Annelies Aunty a happy life and continued success to Navjeevan Sanstha.

Gaurav Pendhe

Gaurav was brought to us when he was 4 years old. Gaurav's father had died and his mother had moved in with another man. This new man had threatened that if the mother brings Gaurav to his home he would sell the child to beggary. So the mother's neighbour took the child in and brought him to us. Gaurav is very sweet. When he first came to us he was weeping copiously because his shoes were torn. We immediately gave him a new pair of slippers which brought a smile to his face. We admitted him in to the school and he appears to have settled in well.

He is now 11 years old and he is in class 7th English. He has adapted very well, It almost brought me to tears that adults could behave so cruelly to children. It really proves Kahlil Gibran's words that "children are hostages to fortune"

Simran and her youger sister Sejal had a  very happy family. Their father had a small hotel. One day their father was poisoned by a jealous woman. The children do not know why the woman was jealous. Their grandmother, the mother of the father, chased away the mother and the children. She said that they were spirits who had killed her son. They ended up in the slum Raj Nagar where after a few years the mother burned herself seriously during cooking. It was a dramatic accident. After 16 days the doctor gave up and gave their mother a medicine to die, that's what the children say that the doctor has poisoned their mother.

Simran and Sejal lived on the street for a while. They were still very small. They slept under a cloth at the edge of the street, but also for a while in drain pipes. It must have been as in the picture on the left. That's how they lived for a few years and a man gave them food. When his family no longer approved this, he brought them to Nav-Jeevan where they have been living for more than 10 years now. Sejal was 5 and Simran 7 years old. The man still visits them every few months.
