At NAVJEEVAN SANSTHA, NAGPUR, we strive to improve the lives of underprivileged children by providing them with education, food, and shelter. Our aim is to break the cycle of poverty and give these children a chance at a better future.
Founded in 2003, Navjeevan Sanstha is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on the care, education, and holistic development of street, slum, and tribal children—one of society’s most vulnerable populations. Unlike orphans who benefit from specific support systems, these children often go unnoticed because they have parents struggling to survive. Frequently left alone in unsafe environments while their parents work long hours, these children face neglect, abuse, and lack access to basic education.
Navjeevan Sanstha recognizes that many children live in appalling conditions—shanties made of rags, plastic sheets, and cardboard with no privacy and compromised safety. Often malnourished, many suffer emotional trauma and physical abuse, and receive no support from society or schooling systems. Government schools list them on paper but rarely cater to their educational needs, and school attendance is sporadic at best.
The word Navjeevan means "New Life," which perfectly captures our mission: to provide shelter, protection, and education opportunities to vulnerable children so they can break the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures.
Dr. T.S. Wilkinson Memorial High School
Starting as a small initiative, our school formally launched in 2005 with trained teachers and a handful of barely literate children. Over the years, we have grown into a school of nearly 400 students, providing classes from 1st to 10th grade in both Hindi and English mediums. Our school is recognized by the local education authorities, and our students can take their board exams here. We keep fees almost negligible to ensure no child is denied education due to financial constraints. Beyond academics, we nurture creativity and confidence with extracurricular activities, school trips, exhibitions like "Vision India," and celebrations of diverse religious festivals to promote tolerance and respect. Our students benefit from modern facilities, quality furnishing, nutritious meals, and well-trained staff dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment.
Navjeevan Hostel
Understanding the critical need for a safe living environment, Navjeevan simultaneously started dormitory facilities within the school premises. The hostel offers free accommodation, food, medical care, and emotional support, providing a sanctuary where children can experience the joys of childhood they were previously denied.We currently accommodate about 115 children in the hostel, while over 200 children commute daily from their homes in slums or villages. The hostel has dedicated staff, including wardens, cooks, caregivers, and security personnel, ensuring children receive round-the-clock care. We are also expanding our facilities with a new boys' hostel under construction to improve safety and comfort further.
From humble beginnings with just 10 children in a rented space, Navjeevan has transformed lives through education and care. Our graduates have achieved a remarkable 100% success rate in board exams. Many have gone on to higher education and secured positions in government and private sectors. We financially support students pursuing nursing, engineering, accountancy, police/armed forces careers, and hospitality management. One inspiring story is of three siblings—Ranjeeta, Sunil, and Anil—who, after losing their mother and facing hardships, found refuge at Navjeevan. Today, Ranjeeta is a qualified teacher, Sunil runs his own refrigeration business, and Anil is preparing for banking exams, all empowered by the support and education they received.
We understand that education alone is not enough. Our children benefit from nutritious meals, monthly medical check-ups, and a loving environment where they play, sing, and dance, fostering physical, emotional, and social growth. Regular outings, picnics, and cultural celebrations promote joy and tolerance.
